Cheese That
Gives Back

We believe good food should do good.
That’s why 100% of our cashews are proudly sourced through a partnership with Muntigunung Social Enterprise - supporting livelihoods, dignity, and long-term resilience in one of Bali’s most vulnerable regions.
What is Muntigunung Social Enterprise?
Muntigunung is a social enterprise working to create sustainable employment in northeastern Bali - an area historically impacted by poverty, drought, and limited access to opportunity.
By investing in training, dignified jobs, and long-term development, they empower communities to build a better future from the ground up.

Why it matters
Bali's driest corner
Muntigunung, on the north-east slopes of Bali, is home to more than 1,000 families (around 6,000 people) in 36 small villages. It is considered the poorest area of the island.
No rain falls between May and December and there are no natural springs, so families spent hours every day just fetching water. With no jobs nearby, many women had to travel to Bali's tourist areas to beg.
Since 2004, the Swiss non-profit Future for Children has worked with the Indonesian development organisations Yayasan Dian Desa and Mitra Samya to change that, through water, health, education and fair work.

From tree to cheese
How a cashew becomes TreeNut cheese
1Picked in East Bali
Families around Muntigunung harvest the cashew fruit by hand.
2Dried by the sun
The nuts are spread out and raked for days under the East Bali sun.
3Shelled by hand
Each nut is cracked and peeled by hand. No machines means more jobs, and the flavour stays natural.
4Cultured in Ubud
A short trip of about 70 km brings them to our Ubud kitchen, where natural fermentation and slow ripening turn them into cheese.
Every Purchase Supports Their Work
By choosing TreeNut, you're not just buying great cheese - you’re helping build brighter futures in Bali.
