We're looking for an Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day running of the business. The founder of TreeNut Cheezery is stepping back from operations later this year, and this role exists to fill that gap. You will be the most senior person in the building — responsible for a team of five people across production, sales, fulfillment, and administration.
You'll report directly to the owner and collaborate on strategy and direction, but you'll have full autonomy over day-to-day decisions. Significant or financial decisions above a certain threshold will involve the owner — everything else is yours to handle.
This role suits someone who is self-directed, comfortable with ambiguity, and energised by variety. You won't be handed a set of instructions. You'll be expected to identify what needs to be done and do it.
What We're Looking For
- Someone who takes ownership — you notice problems and solve them without being asked
- 3+ years experience in a supervisory, coordinator, or management role
- A background in startups, small businesses, or fast-moving environments — you're used to wearing multiple hats and getting things done without a lot of structure around you
- Comfortable with numbers — you can read a budget, track spend, and spot when something doesn't add up
- High emotional intelligence — you're able to have difficult conversations with care, read the room, and handle interpersonal dynamics without creating drama
- Strong communicator in both English and Bahasa Indonesia
- Fluent with spreadsheets — Excel or Google Sheets. You use them naturally for tracking, reporting, and staying organised.
- Organised, reliable, and proactive — you build systems, not just follow them
Main responsibilities
People & team
- Hold weekly team check-ins and keep communication flowing across the team
- Manage leave, absences, and cover
- Handle performance conversations, conflict resolution, and staff wellbeing
- Oversee onboarding of new staff
- Actively develop the capability and confidence of team members
- Lead recruitment when needed, with owner sign-off on final decisions
Operations
- Monitor KPIs and maintain a simple monthly reporting rhythm
- Ensure smooth handoffs between sales, production, and fulfillment
- Oversee purchasing decisions within an agreed budget threshold
- Keep an eye on capacity — flagging when the team is over- or under-loaded
- Work within a monthly operational budget and monitor spend against it
- Flag unusual costs or financial risks to the owner promptly
- Build and maintain SOPs across the business
- Support ongoing regulatory and certification processes
Strategy & growth
- Conduct a quarterly business review — what's working, what isn't
- Collaborate with the owner on business direction and priorities
- Coordinate freelancers or consultants for product development and marketing projects
- Keep the business moving forward, not just keeping it stable

TreeNut Cheezery is a small, handcrafted vegan food business based in Ubud. We make cashew- and pili nut-based cheeses and other plant-based products, sold across Bali and beyond. We've been operating for six years and have a small, dedicated team of five.

Job Specification
This is a real leadership role with genuine autonomy. You won't have a manager standing over you — you'll be trusted to run the business, make decisions, and take ownership of outcomes. For the right person, that's a rare opportunity at this stage of a career.
You'll be joining a small, close-knit team in one of Ubud's most interesting small food businesses. The work is varied, the environment is relaxed, and the products are something you can feel good about.
Salary is competitive and based on experience. We're open to a conversation about what's right for the right candidate.
This role begins with a 6-month probationary contract. At the end of the probation period, performance and fit will be reviewed, and the contract may then be converted to a permanent position.
Position Type
This is a full-time position. Starting on a 6 month probationary contract, moving to a permanent position.
Location
This is an on-site position. Partial remote-working may be possible, after 1 year in the position.
The location is at our factory in Kengetan, South Ubud.
Working Schedule
Monday to Friday
8am - 4:30pm
Salary
7-9.000.000 per month, depending on experience. Paid twice-monthly.

Full BPJS insurance provided after the probationary period.
Cuti
1 day per month, accrued through working time (starting after probationary period).
